Healing Force Project - A Message From The Spirits
Here is our first exclusive podcast, from the very sane spirit of Healing Force Project.
Healing Force Project is one outfit of italian musician Antonio Marini based in Treviso, near Venice.
I bought his unique release on Acido Records about a year ago (still available !) and after a couple more Acido releases caught my attention, I hooked up with the founder of the label, Andreas Krumm for a little piece on our blog. Whereas his mix was clearly looking towards original house music, it's quite obvious that the music featured on Acido records is definitely the work of passionate individuals with big ears and open minds, and the works of Antonio, as HFP or Velcro Tape, give shining evidence of this statement. When clearly exploring pretty experimental territories for his own productions, it appears, through his posts on facebook or through the playlist of the podcast below, that his influences stem in jazz, funk, latin and psychedelia.
So, how exactly did he connect with the Acido family ?
"I met Andreas around the year 2007/2008, near Venice, thanks to a person that we knew at that moment in common : Rabih Beaini (Morphosis / Morphine Rec).
And in fact I don't mention these two names at random, because they were and they are among the main points of reference for sounds that I've listened to in these times... absolutely amazing ! The story is simple. I've sent some tracks to Andreas and then, with a bit of luck, I could come out for Acido with "Analogic Prospectus" and "Moorg 1". For me it was extremely satisfying as well as a honor to be part of this great team label !"
Nevertheless, existing and performing in the 'real world' is somewhat difficult : "My musical activities are unfortunately very limited, because of the lack of rooms dedicated to genres different from the more fashionable ! And so my activity is really isolated !"
Bringing isolated yet very inspired and talented musicians to release their music (especially on vinyl) seems pretty risky, if not impossible, these days. So, thumbs up to people like Rabih and Andreas for supporting unformatted ideas, and swimming against the stream... in the long run, it may be acknowledged, as Morphosis' example would tend to prove.
Contacted for a potential contribution for us, Antonio responded with much enthusiasm and devised a very personal podcast, comprising of eleven titles.
"In this little selection called "A Message from the Spirits" I've played a lot of tracks that influenced me and still affect me.
The simplest example is Miles Davis with his sound visions and genius, which gave me a great incentive in the search of sound.
Of course I can't forget other groups like Ozric Tentacles, for me a real point of reference between electronic and the Canterbury Psychedelic Rock feeling, or the magnificent band called Pink Floyd ! I hope that anyone who will listen can appreciate the variety in this set."
Questioned about the 'spiritual' aspect of this selection and his relation to spirituality, Antonio simply adds : "My spiritual life and music interest are only for sound and personal tastes ! But I don't only like dark and mystic music, I love the Afro-Cuban and Latin Rhythms like Fania All Stars. I like Ray Barreto, Eddie Palmieri, Funk, Big Band Classic Jazz (Duke Ellington), Disco and Boogie (years 75-81). I've got a little personal music collection, but there's always somenthing new to discover in music, this makes it unique !!"
Before diving into his selection of seminal inspirations, here is one example of Antonio's unique approach of electronic alchemy, using and fusing jazz samples with his own arsenal of analog weaponry.
